My theory is that Tammen's psychology book was open to these two pages on his desk when he disappeared. Although Carl Knox said in his notes that the book was open to HABITS -- all caps and underlined twice -- I believe Tammen was reading the other page with the subhead "Post-hypnotic suggestion."
